In both strands of our work (Knife Crime & D&I) we embed mentoring as a key factor to our rapport-building with the young people we reach out. We understand young people may be difficult to communicate with, a lot of the times they do not see eye-to-eye with many "role-models" in their life. I use "role-model" as we believe ALL adults in a child's life should portray positive behaviour that the child can learn from. This is why mentoring has a huge part to play. The ability to communicate with the child effectively, be consistent in that child's life and most importantly role model perfect behaviour, are so essential to the mentoring role.
Both strands of our work include teaching from our core syllabus we have created here at TLDM. Both the Life Skills and D&I programs follow a syllabus which can fulfil an academic year with weekly lessons, activities and games, all supporting the learning required in youth provisions. These lessons can also be turned into assemblies and workshops if neccessary.
